Director of Development

Reporting and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development will lead exalt's development and fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will cultivate individual donors, as well as foundation, government and corporate giving.


  • Spearhead and execute a plan to meet 1.4 million dollars of exalt's annual fundraising goals.
  • Design, develop and implement a broad based development plan which includes major individual, corporate, foundation and government funding, special events, direct mail and cause related marketing.
  • Develop and track all proposals and reports to foundations.
  • Manage complete grant cycle process: write high quality grant applications and proposals including budgets and prepare other materials as needed: reports, letters of intent, program briefs, etc.; manage submission process and follow-up.
  • Provide leadership to the Fundraising Committee of the Board and other board members in cultivating potential donors and meeting their fundraising goals.
  • Retain and grow existing portfolio of foundation and government partnerships; steward and solicit prospects to secure and grow new funding sources.
  • Identify and implement new cultivation and stewardship opportunities to expand individual giving.
  • Prospect research and identification:
    • Developing a regularly updated list of institutional funding prospects for circulation to the Board of Directors, staff, etc. for contact identification.
    • Tracking, developing strategies, preparing submissions and follow-up on all contacts resulting from the list.
    • Acknowledgement and recognition of gifts.
  • Oversee Special Events, yearly gala and work with events chairs to meet fundraising goals.
  • Financial Reporting: Work with accountant to develop and produce financial and other related reports for all fundraising programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Internship Development Coordinator

The exalt Internship Development Coordinator is responsible for co-building exalt’s internship partner relationships for the core program with the Internship Development and Outreach Manager. In addition to internship development, the Internship Development Liaison will be responsible for building contacts in the youth justice and educational communities with the goal of organizing outreach workshops and networking events for, and with, these partners. The Internship Development Liaison is a full-time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This position reports to exalt's Deputy Director.

Lead Teacher

The Lead Teacher teaches three components of exalt’s core educational program: 1) a 6-week pre-internship preparation class, which utilizes a curriculum linking employability skills, educational engagement and avoidance of justice system involvement to a set of four core skills: critical thinking, communication, creative problem-solving and “resource management;” 2) eight Friday Seminars (during the 8-Week Internship Phase), which build upon the 6-week classroom curriculum and give opportunity for participants to reflect on their internship experiences; and 3) a 2-week post-internship class, which allows students to further synthesize their internship experiences with prior classroom learning and develop tangible goals and strategies for post-program justice system avoidance, successful engagement in school, and employability.
