Business Manager (Full-time Position)

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director

SUMMARY

 

The Business Manger role is a newly created Senior Leadership position at exalt. This role is responsible for all aspects the physical relocation to a new head quarters; developing the necessary infrastructure that exalt needs to successfully implement its scaling plan, and enhance systems and policies related to administrative, human resources, contracts, and development of new resources.

The Business Manger also provides support to the Executive Director, and is responsible for many vital aspects related to a growing organization, and will lead or assist the entire team in relevant organizational functions.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Relocation:  Manage all aspects of exalt physical relocation to a new Head Quarters.

Operations: Provide Technical support and all operations functions, with particular attention to HR policies, organizational policies, and management of all administrative functions at exalt. Have all necessary policies in place for a thriving organization and develop new opportunities to reduce cost for the organization and bring in new resources and new sources of funding for exalt. Manage and process human resources and employer benefits.

Facilities: Manage all facility related functions to maintain the new space.

Technology: Ensure that exalt has all of the proper technology to ensure effective and efficient use of technological resources.

Capacity Building: The Business Manger will assist in developing new corporate sponsorship to help build out our diversification of funds in a couple of different ways, including capacity building to move to a new space, while also supporting our cultivation opportunities through event and graduate workshop sponsorship. The Business Manger will:

  • Secure corporate sponsorship for cultivation/appreciation events

  • Secure corporate sponsorships for Annual Benefit

  • Engage businesses in exalt’s mission to increase smaller, individual donations

  • Secure corporate matching for Giving Tuesday 2018

  • Secure corporate sponsorships for graduate workshops

Thought Leadership: Part of exalt’s strategic plan is to be a thought leader in the filed. The Business Manger will prospect citywide and national social justice conferences and engagements; develop speaking engagement calendar; and assist in developing a though leadership strategy.

Executive Support/Key Meeting Preparation/Facilitation:

  • Work closely with Executive Director to remain apprised of/schedule upcoming commitments.

  • Help ensure participants are aware of and prepared for the meeting.

  • Attend meetings, capture major take-a ways, and work with Senior Leadership team to ensure follow up.  

  • Monitor progress/achievement of next steps Project Coordination/Orchestration.

  • Develop and maintain an inventory of critical path projects in which the ED is especially interested and/or for which her awareness and involvement is essential.

  • Present ideas for special projects that might facilitate the ED’s/leadership’s objectives.

  • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including external partners, to ensure the success of the implementation of the new strategic plan.

  • Present findings to ED, Senior staff on progress

  • Create inventory of upcoming communication events including articles, columns, speeches, panel discussions, etc.

  • Prepare follow up correspondence for internal/external meetings, as directed by the ED.

  • Conduct fact checking-in support of all communications.

  • Represent the ED in external forums that the ED cannot attend.

 

COMPETENCIES

Communication: Clearly, effectively and efficiently conveys and receives information and ideas.  Demonstrates excellent written, oral and listening skills.

Planning and Organizing: Organizes work, sets priorities, determines resources requirements and seeks input and support from supervisors/colleagues; determines necessary sequence of activities needed to achieve goals.

Cultural competence: has strong familiarity with and understanding of or is committed to learning about exalt student’ histories, cultures and the socio-economic and political factors which have shaped those.  

Adaptability: Able to adapt quickly to new information and unexpected deadlines and obstacles.  Approaches change positively.

Excellent in Microsoft Office: Familiarity with Macs and PC’s preferred. Photoshop, Adobe or media applications preferred.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree.

  • Strong interest in exalt’s mission.

  • Demonstrated organizational and research skills and experience.
